Seed Shortage
Chris McCracken, Northeast Manager of Forage and Tecomate Seeds, Barenbrug USA, www.barusa.com
Grass Seed Prices to Climb due to Shortage. A tremendous shortage of quality tall fescue seed is inevitable this year, due
to poor growing conditions in the West in 2007. Also, with the increased need for corn (ethanol) and wheat, seed companies are having difficulty competing for quality growers. Many growers have decided that it makes more sense for them to grow grains rather than seed. With this sudden change, grass seed companies are being forced to pay more to the growers to level out the playing field. Thus, with this added seed cost and the price of fuel, expect to see the price of grass seed climb to much higher levels
for 2008 and beyond.
The Dark Side of Ethanol and Biodiesel Subsidies
Government support for agrofuels in the U.S. costs taxpayers roughly $2 per gallon in subsidies at the gas pump. These funding priorities have taken tens of billions of dollars of funding away from essential greenhouse gas reduction policies, such as energy conservation, solar and wind power, fuel-efficiency technologies, and mass transit.
Large Animal Rescue Resources
In emergency situations, many first-responders arrive well prepared to deal with HUMAN crises. But what if your 911 is a HORSE emergency?

Program Highlights Vaccination Controversy

MAJOR NETWORK TOLD NOT TO AIR PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTING VACCINE PROBLEMS
The American Academy of Pediatrics called on the ABC television network to cancel the premiere episode of Eli Stone, in which a mother wins a $5.2 million lawsuit charging her son got autism from a vaccine. The Academy claims airing the program may cause more people to question the safety of vaccinations. (ABC ran the program along with a disclaimer stating the people story was fictitious.)
A recent poll in Organic Consumer Association's web forum found that 72% of the survey participants avoid all vaccinations, 11% avoid some vaccinations, 12% get all of their vaccinations, and 4% believe vaccinations should be required by law.
